1) What are the main differences between a tabloid and a broadsheet?

  • A tabloid has a softer news agenda and a broadsheet has a harder news agenda, a tabloid uses less formal language and has pages dominated by headlines and images whereas a broadsheet uses more formal language and is dominated by copy. Tabloids target a more downmarket audience offering news as entertainment whilst broadsheets target a more upmarket audience offering news as information. 
2) What category of newspaper was the Observer in the 1960's?
  • In the 1960's the Observer was printed in the broadsheet format.
3) What category of newspaper is it now? Why? How has it changed?
  • Now, The Observer is now printed in a tabloid format.
